7 Reasons Women Are Trading Metal Bracelets For Amber — Margaret Ashford
Why Women Over 60 Are Trading Cold Metal Bracelets For Hand-Polished Amber. Here's 7 Reasons Why.
By Margaret Ashford, Founder of Margaret's Amber | November 3, 2026
Every morning, millions of women open their jewelry box and reach right past the bracelets they used to love. Too cold, too heavy, or exactly like everyone else's. I've spent most of my life polishing amber by hand, and I've watched woman after woman put one of my pieces on and simply never take it off again. This is my final collection, so before it's gone, here's why.
1. Warm The Second It Touches Your Skin

You know the feeling: you put on a metal bracelet on a winter morning and it's like ice against your wrist. Amber isn't a metal or even a stone. It's fossilized tree resin, so it takes on the warmth of your skin almost instantly. No chill, no shock, just a soft warmth you stop noticing until you take it off.
2. Made By My Hands, Not A Factory

Most jewelry you see today comes off a production line by the thousands. Every piece in my collection is chosen by hand for its color and warmth, then strung and Polished By Me. It's slow work, and I wouldn't do it any other way. When you wear one, you're wearing something a real person made for you.
3. Real Amber, Not Plastic

Here's something most people don't know: a lot of the "amber" sold online is really plastic or tinted resin. Every bead looks identical and flat. Real amber has tiny bubbles, flecks and colors that shift from lemon to honey to deep cognac, sealed in millions of years ago. I only work with natural amber.
4. So Light You Forget You're Wearing It

Heavy bracelets drag on the wrist, clink against the counter and leave red marks by evening. Amber is barely heavier than water, which is why it floats in sea water and washes up on the Baltic coast after a storm. Put it on in the morning and you won't think about it again.
5. No Two Pieces Are Ever The Same

Because every bead is natural, no two of my bracelets look alike. The one you receive is the only one exactly like it in the world. Women tell me that's what they love most: it feels like it was always meant to be theirs.
6. Real Amber Without The Boutique Markup

In a boutique, real amber sits behind glass with a price tag to match. My pieces go straight from my workbench to you, with nobody in between. And because this is my final collection, everything is marked down further than I've ever priced it before.
7. When It's Gone, It's Gone

This is the last collection I'll ever make. I won't be restocking. Some designs are already down to their final pieces, and once my tray is empty, there won't be another one like it.
